The most striking diamonds
At our in-house laboratory, each diamond undergoes a thorough examination and is strictly assessed on the basis of four quality characteristics: cut, clarity, colour, and carat. Only if the diamond satisfies the manufactory’s high requirements for all 4 Cs does it find its way into an exclusive GIRELLO rotating ring.
The cut of a diamond determines its shine and for the wearer it is one of the most important and obvious quality characteristics. The reflection of light and thus its radiance depends on the shape and the surface finish of the stone. One of the most well-known cuts is the brilliant cut – a name that is only earned if the round-cut diamond has at least 57 facets.
A diamond is described as flawless if it is free of any inclusions and cracks. The stone is also examined at different magnification levels. The highest clarity grading is known internationally as internally flawless and is only assigned in the rarest of cases.
The colour of a diamond also affects its quality. In many cases, colourless to near-colourless precious stones are used. Their grading is based on individual colour grades – colour D means colourless and represents the highest quality. The final colour grade Z indicates a visible hue.
Carat is the unit of mass used to measure the weight of a diamond. One carat is equivalent to 0.2 grams. The higher the carat and therefore the weight, the more valuable the precious stone.
